Harmand System One, stylized as HS-001 is an ongoing case study and experiment I started involving the relationship between machine learning and social behavior. HS-001 was developed as a means for fellow creatives to immerse in digital content amidst an era of doom-scrolling. According to a study done by the New Yorker, the average person spends around 1.7 seconds on a social media post. This statistic was alarming to me, and made me question the ways in which we interact with content, information, and art. The initial launch of HS-001 included 1200 high-resolution images from a range of mediums including photography, graphic design, cinema, fashion, brand campaigns, and technology.
Each image took over the users screen and remained in place for 7 seconds before switching to the next image and the order of the images was randomized and therefore different for each visitor. HS-001 is coded to block all mobile and tablet access using CSS that inhibits the library to display under 1080px. All mobile visitors are greeted with a message informing them that they must be on desktop in order to access the library. HS-001 is currently under redevelopment with 6000+ images and will become a library for all creatives to reference and find sources for creative work. User profiles, filters, and search functions will be available in the next version launch.
